Top leaders of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)and the
International Energy Agency (IEA) expressed their desire to work together
to develop newer forms of sustainable energy that will alleviate climate
change threats. Both organisations agreed and said at the just concluded
World Energy Future Summit in Abu Dabhi. They said they were going to work
together with a determination, putting a lot more emphasis on developing
renewable energy.
The Deputy Executive Director of IEA Mr. Richard H. Jones during the
plenary session said, that his organisation is looking at diversified
energy sources for current and future requirements of mankind.
He further explained that, diversity should be emphasised at every stage
of the pursuit for sustainable energy forms and in the efforts to mitigate
the dangers of climate change at the technologies, policies, and forms of
energies being used by different countries in various regions.
Lord Nicholas Stern, Chair of Grantham Research Institute on Climate
Change and the Environment, said developed and developing countries should
work together to address the challenges of climate change and achieving
energy security. Emphasising that, it was important to take steps to put
a price on carbon being emitted by different countries.
Mark Fulton, Global Head of Climate Change Investment Research said that,
the world would have achieved considerable progress in terms of reducing
carbon emission if the commitments and announcements that have been
already made by different countries were strictly adhered to.
