Luanda - The 155th annual conference of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) started with
its sessions this Tuesday morning, in Luanda’s Talatona Conventions Centre, in a ceremony which was headed by the
Angolan Prime Minister, António Paulo Kassoma. For the country whose OPEC membership is in its third year, this is the
first time she will be hosting this association of oil rich nations
There were no earth quakes in the descions made, OPEC opted to stick with the 4.2 million barrel-a-day of output cuts agreed upon last year, while urging members to
improve adherence to past output cuts.
António Paulo Kassoma is generally considered as protagonist of the integration of such economic and environmental
policies that can secure the sustainability of the current and future generations’ development. It is also belived that,
as well as the production of alternative energy to oil as a non renewable resource.
Angola, which is currently chairing the organisation, will pass over the presidency to Ecuador, whose mandate will start on January 1, 2010.
The current OPEC members are Angola, Algeria, Libya, Nigeria, Venezuela, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar.
